Uploading Data from a GPS Receiver

To upload route information recorded by a GPS Receiver:

  1. Connect your GPS receiver to your PC
  2. Read the recorded data from your GPS receiver using the software supplied, or with one of the GPS utility programs.
  3. Save the data to your PC's disk in GPX format, if possible, or save in another format and convert to GPX using one of the GPS utility programs.
  4. Upload the GPX file using the Add Route pages on this site.

Garmin

These instructions work for MapSource version 6.5 and later. People with earlier versions can download the latest version from the Garmin web site.

  1. Connect your GPS receiver to your PC.
  2. Read the tracklog and waypoints from the GPS using Garmin’s MapSource program.
  3. Save the data using “Save As...” and choose GPX as the file format.
  4. Go to the Add Route page on this site, and select the “data from GPS” option.
  5. Click Next >>, fill in the route summary information then click Next >> again.
  6. On the “Upload Data” page, click on the Browse... button and use the pop-up window to locate the file you saved in step 3 above.
  7. Click the Next >> button and the file will be uploaded.
  8. Continue entering information in the following pages, clicking Next >> after each step.
  9. Finally review the route information and click on the Add Route button. The route will be added to the database and displayed to you.
